Narrative
A 39-year-old man died, and two others were hospitalized Tuesday after two cars collided on the southbound side of Frankford Avenue in Philly. The incident happened around 4:47 a.m. between Unruh Avenue and Rowland Avenue in the Mayfair section of the city. Police say the driver of Traffic Unit 1 ran a stop light while speeding south on Frankford Avenue and collided with Traffic Unit 2, which was also travelling southbound on Frankford. The collision threw the driver of Traffic Unit 1 from his vehicle, and he died at the scene of the accident. Medics transported a passenger from Traffic Unit 1 and the 60-year-old driver of Traffic Unit 2 to the hospital for injuries sustained in the wreck. Authorities aren’t sure why the driver of Traffic Unit 1 was travelling at such a high rate of speed. A full investigation is underway.
