UNION TOWNSHIP, PA – A 51-year-old female pedestrian died on Tuesday in Jonestown when a suspected drunk driver struck her on the shoulder of the highway.
The incident happened sometime in the late afternoon near the intersection of State Route 22 and Racehorse Drive, which is east of Ono and west of PA-72.
The investigation indicates that a westbound driver travelled across Route 22 after hitting a concrete barrier and struck the victim and several mailboxes. Police say the victim was checking her daughter’s mail at the time of the collision.
The pedestrian died at the scene. Authorities identified her as Jill Staub.
The driver of the vehicle went to the hospital with non-critical injuries. Authorities say he may have been intoxicated at the time of the accident.
The investigation is ongoing.
