Narrative
CENTRE CO., PA – A 63-year-old wrong-way driver died last Friday in a two-vehicle crash along the interstate in southwestern Centre County.
The incident occurred around 11:23 p.m. on I-99 near mile marker 61, which is just west of Port Matilda.
Police say that a southbound driver many have been intoxicated when he crossed into the northbound lanes of the interstate and collided with a northbound vehicle.
The unrestrained driver of the wrong-way vehicle died at the scene. Authorities identified him as Robert Cummings II.
Both the driver and passenger from the second vehicle were injured. Medics transported the passenger via air ambulance to a local hospital, while the driver was taken by ground ambulance.
